Bridgeport or Tree

Look carefully at the tree mill. Tree had aspecial collet for their spindles. They are hard to find and costly. I converted mine to a er 32 holder. They are good solid mills otherwise. I don't know if they made a R8 spindle version.

I think there are more choices than you are asking about. Several people made very good mills that are as good or better than the list of 2 that you gave. Nothing against a Tree or Bridgeport, but you should look further to explore all your options.
I own a BP, and don't plan on it going anywhere, but some of the clones at the shop are actually better machines.

As a Tree 2UV owner, I recommend it highly. The Z collets are still made by Universal Eng., and pop up occasionally on Ebay. Tree is still in business, and has spare parts. Having owned Bridgeport J and then M, I feel that Tree is more rigid. Tooling change is very fast with the collet holder, the tools just pop in and out. Trees seem to be much less expensive than comparable Bridgeports.

However - you can't beat the variety and low prices on R8 tooling.
