Helmel CMM's are appealing to me as the air leaks from air bearing CMM's, plus the need for continuiously running air dryer, are annonying in my situation. Is Helmel the only CMM that does not use air bearings ?

The Brown & Sharpe ONE series, and Sheffield's "shop floor" type model use linear guides like a small machine tool. Very nice not hearing the air, and also very tough machines for QC rooms that are a little less than "laboratory" status.

They are both very reasonably priced too! The ONE775 with the base model PC-DMIS, and the crappy little Tesa probe is like $30,000. I spent double that though, because I just had to have PC-DMIS CAD and a PH10T auto indexing probe head.
