Just out of curiousity ,would hanging a robot upside down have negative consequences for the mechanics, or is it generally in the specs of a given brand wether its ok or not?

There are many applications where robots are hung upside down; some of them are designed to work only that way. Unless it has an oil lube system or hydraulics, there should be no problem as long as the cabling is captive. The manufacturer should have at least some notation of mounting parameters in the manual. Or call them and ask.

I know Kawasaki Robots can be mounted floor, wall or ceiling in standard config. You just select in the AUX parameters which way you mounted it so the coordinates work correctly.

Does the orientation also change the kinematics?
Does the weight of the arm segments matter to the motion tuning?
Thanks.

Doesn't make any difference IMHO and experience. The arm is hanging out in the air no matter how the base is oriented. We had some hanging upside down in a production situation for years, made no difference in performance.
