I got my first ever machine. Im converting it to a electromechanical manual mill for now with 3 manual pulse generators and three DQ860MA drivers. Later mach 3 or 4 is calling my name.
How much backlash is normal for this cnc ballscrew on x and y. Im seeing about 0.002-0.003" on the built in gauges before my dial indicator moves on the table. Any sugestions? Adjustment procedures if there is one.

My 1987 Taiwanese Webb mill was originally a CNC conversion at the point of sale, so it came to me with ball screws. The Y Axis has zero backlash and the X Axis has .007 which is no problem for manual use with a DRO.

I agree with those who mentioned checking thrust bearrings since movement of the ball screw on its axis will transfer into lash .
