    Default Bridgeport/Heidenhain dro questions

    Evening.
I'm fairly new to machining and recently bought a Bridgeport mill with a Heidenhain VRZ 731 but the reader heads are faulty and wondered if anybody have have experience on using any other makes of reader heads as there experience new.

Was thinking of buying a Chinese cheap dro but would like to use the original Heidenhain DRO.

    Any help would be appreciated.

As long as you do nothing more than think about it, then you are automatically ahead.

    Sorry for the slow reply.

The scales are clean and to be fine when swapped the one working reader head into both scales.

I found the of the pea bulbs to have been blown and struggled to fine the correct replacement so used the bulb from the X axis as it was working.

IV tryed to adjust the lens but have had no success with getting any readings on the dro even when swapping the leads at the rear if the display (incase the display was faulty also).

Has anyone got a link to the type and wattage of the bulbs also how to set up the lens.

I would like to keep the machine original as just got it.

    Thanks for any help

I thought there was a thread here about it but could be imagining it

Worth calling your local heidenhain rep, they may not fix old scales but might have the info
