I found a Bridgeport M head in good shape with the exception that the spindle shaft has 5 inches broken off the pulley end. Looks Like someone didn't know the proper way to remove spindle and they put the spindle in a vise and turned the pulley nut shearing it off. I have a piece of 7/8" od 4140 tube and have tapered both ends of the mating parts and welded together.i would like to know if someone knows the proper cutter profile for this spline. major dia. .875 minor dia..725 6 spline. I think it is an involute spline as they are not parallel to each other. any help would be apreciated. Blaine

The M head I had did not have an involute spline, nor would I have expected one in that era and application.

Personally, I would try to find a replacement spindle or whole head. I believe a cherrying head used the same spindle and quill parts, so look for one of those.
