I have a Bridgeport knee mill with a QC30 spindle and variable speed head. I am trying to disassemble the head to replace the spindle bearings but have hit a roadblock. I cant seem to figure out how to get the spindle nose off. The threads for the spanner nut are blocking the nose from coming off and I cant seem to figure out how to get it off. I'm 21 and have only been a machinist for 4 years now so I don't have a lot of experience taking these machines apart. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am trying to understand what the problem is.

Years ago I swapped a Universal Quick Switch spindle for a NMTB 30 spindle and there was no problems.

Posting some pictures would help us to determine what your problem might be.

Does this help? Had mine apart last year. Once you unscrew the spanner nut the spindle should come out the bottom. I believe this is different from an R8 spindle. Pretty sure there is still a set screw though!! If I remember correctly there is a spec. that needs to be set with the spanner nut when reassembled.
