it's the one in the head for the x axis. Do i gotta take the entire head off this thing now? Not a good day.

Images are of the 'Basic Machine' and apply to the Step Pulley and Vari-speed mills.
If the 4hp head is similar then the head has to come off for repair or replacement of parts.
Typical problems:
Sheared worm key.
Bent worm shaft, Bridgeport did not include a small bore to support the end of the shaft.
Drill and reamer guides can be made to help put the bore on location. Replacement shafts are usually sold
with extra length to fit the bore.
The worm wheel(worm gear) is fixed to the knuckle by a roll pin and a pair of cap screws. The roll pin
shears followed by the cap screws. I like to install a solid dowel pin that is drilled and tapped.
If the worm wheel is stripped just flip it 180 and reinstall.
