Was told this likely fits a Hardinge lathe. Anyone know for sure? I don't own a Hardinge it came with a chuck I bought.

Buck made a special 5" Ajust-Tru chuck for Hardinge lathes. The bore for the spindle nose was larger than most small lathes, leaving too thin a wall for the four adjusting screws to press against. So the Hardinge chucks have a 2.75" counterbore for the front of the adapter plate. The standard chucks have a smaller counterbore, but I do not recall the exact figure. You can use the Hardinge chuck on a plate made for a different lathe (1.5 x 8, for instance) if you make four new, longer, plugs or screws.

Larry, that helps a lot. I think what I have is a standard ajust tru chuck with a 2.38 counter bore and a shop made back plate with thin walls. This would also require a pretty thin back plate for a 2 1/4 threaded spindle also.... [emoji848] guess I'll let the chuck go with the small lathe I'm getting rid of.
