Starting in 1920, Franklin Hardinge got a series of patents for oil burners, probably to convert coal furnaces, the latest thing in heating. No stoves were involved. After he sold off the lathe business and the name Hardinge Brothers Inc. circa 1931, he kept the same Chicago building and called his company Hardinge Manufacturing Co. His brother, Henry Hardinge, who was not much involved in the lathe business, got a patent for an oil burner in 1931.

The key fob would date to 1921-1930 or so.
