Hardinge HLV-H treaded spindle nose

I have never seen a drawing of the 2-3/16-10 RH threaded spindle. I have a Hardinge HV4N indexer with the same spindle end and can take simple measurements for you if you provide a sketch and indicate the dimensions you want.

Some of the major chuck companies make chuck mounts for that spindle, so they must have drawings. Hardinge might help you if you ask.

While not specific to your Hardinge, the tolerance given by Boley for the register on their threaded lathe spindles is ISO h5, which would seem a good reference point. The document linked by old_Dave lists the Hardinge register as 2.186 (56,6mm), so you end up with an h5 tolerance field of (-0/-13µm). In imperial that would be 2.186" (+0/- 0.0051").

h5 is a very precise tolerance, so if you are making matching parts like chuck backing plates, you are probably aiming for a locating fit without interference, which can still be removed by hand, so the mating fit is probably H6, which would be +0/+19µm ( +0/+0,0075").

The machine came with a back plate for a drive dog
It has has a very sloppy fit More as 0.05 at least
The spindle nose measured 2.3/16 " which is 55.56 mm
So that gives it a sloppy 0.04mm fit according the linked to PDF
I plan to hold tichter tolerances Perhaps +0.005 +0.015
