adding power downfeed

Is it possible to add a power downfeed to my mill if it does not have one?

I know most Bridgeports have them but mine doesn't (for some reason) and so I'm trying to see if there is a way to add power downfeed or something...

I'm wondering, what about instead of me trying to add power downfeed to the mill, I just go and put a CNC stepper motor on it and make power feed that way?

If I could find a way to disengage it temporarily for when I need sensitivity drilling, it would be a good power feed and it would also be there for a future CNC conversion too...
