Hardinge HLV_H Brake, spring?

Hi,
I have got myself an old KL1 (HLV H).
The brake was disconnected and disengaged.
Now the solenoid seems to work but are buzzing a lot.
But if the solenoid pulls the lever to disengage the brake then it should have a spring that applies the brake?
My brake has no spring anywhere it's just "loose".
Where is the spring supposed to be mounted?

The spring it trapped between the lever and the coil cover box. There should be a raised boss on the lever lust behind the solenoid. the spring presses on to the boss.

The spring is about 25 diameter 30-40 long with wire about 2 to 2.5 diameter. Not super strong .

Check the solenoid closely for cracks in the copper shorts . This is the main reason for the buzzing.

I had the same problem. I purchased at outrageous cost a replacement spring from Hardinge because I had no idea of the size needed.

Here are some pictures (if they work!):

I repaired the solenoid following Bill Todd's advice - fitting two new copper loops. This almost eliminated the noise and vibration. I filed things down a bit t give better contact, maybe I should have done more.
