Hello everybody in this forum. I am newbie here...

Has somebody an idea how to disassemble this Hardinge OPB slide?
It has never been used, so I don't want to ruin it.
So far I did not manage to remove this round shaft marked in the picture.
Probably left hand thread?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ralph

The OPB was part of the Hardinge Lensmaster, a single-purpose lathe for making hard plastic contact lenses and probably not much use for any other purpose. If you are not going to use it, leave it alone. If you must, start by getting the proper tools. The disc with two holes is a right hand threaded nut that retains the swivel bearing. You need an adjustable face spanner to properly turn it. Here is one of my old Hardinge general purpose radius turning tools partly disassembled to show the nut and two of the suitable tools, one American and one from West Germany. The nut was messed up by a previous user who did not have the proper tool. A hammer and punch will leave evidence of poor work.

Larry,

Many many thanks - the best information I could get! I already tried with a face spanner, but the nut did not came off easily, so I wanted to ask before ruining things...

Great piece of help!

Thank you again!
