I believe My lathe must of had one on
it. There are 3 screws missing on the
spindle nose where it must have been.

Do you like using it or are you better
off with a parting blade in a tool post?

I used one on a turret lathe and liked it. Not sure if it would be in the way on the HLV-H. I guess you would have to pull it off to install a chuck.

I use one on my DSM-59 the holes are threaded 1/4-28.
Advantages of the cutoff slide over a tool in the tool post.
1. If you are making several parts, the cutoff is already mounted, no tool change needed, in many cases.
2. The cutoff works better on the back of the slide mounted upside down, not possible on the HLV. The chips fall off the tool.
3. The Vert cutoff, the chips fall clear of the cut better than sliding back on the cutoff blade. This would be the only option on the HLV.

I would get the proper screws in the empty holes to prevent the nose ring from coming loose when you least expect it.
