Is it ok to swap spindles from one HLV-H headstock to another?

I have an HLV-H that I’m rebuilding.
It’s a 1972 and has the threaded spindle nose.
All The spindle lock positions are also
all rounded out.

Would you swap spindles just because
you like the tapered nose better or leave that alone?

Also, since the spindle lock positions are rounded out, I am either going to have to re-machine those in-between
the current positions or put a replacement on.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on these subjects?
Thanks H.

Not related but...
My friend put a spindle from a Hardinge AHC lathe
into the workhead of his Brown & Sharpe #13 grinder
workhead. I found an AHC spindle for myself on ebay.
The front bearing is the same size, and the rear bearing
bore of the #13 workhead has to be bored out.
I am planning on converting my #13 workhead soon.
It seems like a good conversion, as the B&S #13 workhead
only takes a B&S #7 taper center, and some weird left
hand thread spindle for chucks.

The spindle lock positions on mine are rounded out. I made a little clamp that pushes the lock button into the locking slot(s) on the spindle. It's worked well for 15 years. So I avoided having to take apart an otherwise healthy spindle. I'll post a picture after I get back from the shop tonight.
