Just heard from Solid Professor that MASTERCAM will no longer begiving Educational discounts, EDU will have to pay full price for the software.

That is incorrect. EDU will never have to pay full price for a seat.

Imagine trying to equip a 20 computer classroom all with full price seats lol. Resellers would never service machine shops, they would spend all their time in the schools!!!

Well Solid Professor has heard this from Schools because they have MasterCAM training as one of their lesson plans, I just had a meeting with them about what they have for us here at ASU, said it has just happened.

why would SP say different as they would loose sales????

    DID you hear any different?

Sounds like someone at SP has gotten a message mixed up or maybe they are trying to push Fusion/other CAM content instead? I doubt they would stoop that low though to negatively promote a product.

If you are a school, I suggest calling your Mastercam reseller and getting a quote. I think EDU pricing was around 150 per seat/yr. Make the call and let us know directly from the horses mouth instead of all these rumored prices.

Thats great but back to the point of them claiming EDU customers will be paying full price. Seems like an odd rumor to be spreading. Again, I'll give the benefit of the doubt that maybe someone interpreted something the wrong way.

....newest Mastercam content on that link is 2019....

Fingers crossed but watching a presser about the acquisition the terms SAAS and CLOUD were thrown around. Doesn't mean they'll follow in AD footsteps but it does seem to be the way the CADCAM market is shifting as these big players step in.

It makes no sense to go cloud based. I can't see why they would even consider that as an option.
As far as SAAS goes, they might give some people that option, but I don't see them doing away with the current model.
I'd wager that Sandvik didn't acquire Mastercam just for a paycheck, they most likely figured it was the best software out there that will vault the Sandvik brand even higher if they combine forces.
I do see them integrating a full tool library.
Perhaps the Cloud they were referring to was the Sandvik cloud (can't remember the name offhand) they came out with a few years ago. It's iteration was horrible, took literally hours to download anything and was a complete disaster. It was designed to make your own tool assemblies and order them "easily".

You're looking at this wrong. It makes a ton of sense for all software to go cloud-based - for them !

Doesn't mean Sandvik will (yet) but don't kid yourself, every single software company on the planet would love it if that was the only choice.
