solidworks problem

For lack of better terminology, how do I unassociate a configuration on a part? I created some parts from my toolbox, 3" angle iron, then modified those files with different features. Problem is my assembly seems to trap back to the original configuration.

In your assembly, right click on the component which you want to switch configurations. Select "component properties" (icon is at upper right; looks like a little bulleted list), and you should see a list of the configurations in that part. Choose the one you want.
