"Technical Support--MIT Harvard" Very impressive. Could you walk into a job shop and earn your keep? As a matteer of fact did you ever work in a competitive environment other than "technical support".

I actually did gigs like that a couple of times. Lots of smiling and nodding carrying out tasks from the big brains. Lots of coffee and slack time. Got away from it--not my cup of tea, although there were some pretty impressive people I worked with. Really. But they had a pecking order just like anywhere else.

So anyway your not going to move to Pasadena because family is leaving Calif and you like four seasons? WTF If there is one fact about Cali is with very little travel you have the ocean, mountains, desert...and on, and on , on. And even better yet you would be at home with all the liberal Democrats. And...why would anyone want to leave Cali?

Harvard and MIT...good for you. Give it a try. Forward a resume. See if you can knock the socks of the recruiter at CalTech. I doubt it.

BTW---Check this out. Very interesting. I wonder if you would fit in a "Amazon Affinity Group"

Do you understand how much your post says about you?

Sigh. Read what I wrote again, and figure out why the above comment makes no sense.

Actually was thinking the same about you.

Tell you what and you can do it online with little investment in time. Apply for the position. You have nothing to lose.

Most of the movers and shakers of the last 10 to 20 years hardly, if ever, set foot inside MIT or Harvard and made millions and billions and today most probably provided buildings with their names on them for really smart people to work on shit that will make them more money....and it some cases...help mankind.

C'mon man for bragging rights if nothing else.

I don't understand having an associates degree required and a bachelors preferred. They only want college grads working at a college? The few machinists I knew with 4 year degrees left the field by the time they hit 30.

Doubling down? No worries, I'm not here to impress you, dissuade you, or enlighten you. A black hole absorbs all, and I'm happy enough to stay outside your event horizon.

Before you guys pack your tools you need to check the price of houses in Pasadena. I don't think the hourly straight time will cover it but maybe with OT and you can work 24/7 just maybe?

And that's another reason why I'm not applying. At least the temps today weren't too bad, so a cardboard box would almost be affordable AND livable.

Straight time? Doubt it. $130-$140K a year with a $30/$40 signing bonus. Might even be able to work in some kind of relocation and temp housing stipend for the first year. If they need you they will pay it.

Fact is, they can probably file for a H1B worker who would cost less and work harder.

We must be getting the morning shift "good cop" EG . Later today or this evening we will be getting the "bad cop" EG with rants containing such classic descriptive words such as "fucknuckle".

Googling show the cheapest one bedroom apartments starting at $2k and they look like ratty. Nice looking ones are $3-4k a month.

What did you really do for a living? Night watchman at MIT or Harvard taking liberties in the live animal experiment area?

A job opening and it becomes a political I do not now what shithole.
And for what reason? What good is this sideline to the board or any outside viewers?
First post a job opening and this not liked or welcome.
I think the OP will have received the message.
Posting a job opening here no matter what will get trashed in some sort.
This happens every single time with complaints on one or another personal issues.

A help wanted post here seems to be a thing to complain or try to put down the OPs request or need.
And then we wonder during this time of hiring and many jobs open there is not more here.
Posting a open job here now puts a target on your back.
    Bob

Research shows it is a joint venture between Cal Tech and Amazon, so in that instance who calls the shots? Amazon has a poor reputation of how they treat employees and Cal Tech is a private university, so this isn't a cushy State of California job. It appears to be a new venture.
