Got this thing from a shop for $400in San Antonio. it appears to mostly work except a horrendous hammering noise while moving rapid lever. Vertical head feed box was removed. Not sure why. Everything looks fine. I adjusted the detent lever and put it back on. Worked fine. Question is about the starting switch. When I hit start the contacts rapidly cut in and out. But when I manually push it together and hold it shut the machine fires up and the contacts hold themselves together. This is an Allen Bradley 3 point contact with a magneto looking coil thing. Is this a symptom of the coil being shot?

Thanks for any advice. 54E50CB4-D643-437E-BEA0-0858EA81FA08.jpg426D0A5B-CC69-4AB4-A2AE-0D5D8F2F545F.jpgF6A7E4D2-6066-4C49-ACF6-39BDBADDC78B.jpg79BB7045-CB30-4AEF-B82A-05AB807CD6B5.jpg

1st thing I would do is clean the contacts in the auxiliary contact block that latches the coil/control circuit. There should be a wiring diagram in the cover of the contactor enclosure.

Coil just needed to be cleaned!

So new very odd problem. The clutch lever detente and engages etc while machine is off but when machine is on there is some kind of resistance pushing back on the lever and as you change gears the lever jumps and try’s to engage itself. What the heck. It is almost as if it’s hydraulic or something
