It came up for sale just 1 hr. away, so I had to haul it home. I gave them 2/3 of what they asked. No tooling/fixtures other than centers and the one wheel attached. It is in decent enough shape (good spindle). OM - 1943 or therebouts. 440v/220v. I took the table off for the trip home. Service manual/elect. schematic included. They never read it - they had greased the balls/tracks. I already have a 5c grinder indexer and plan to make the attachments for my applications.

Thanks.

Ser. 1D2T1Z-202

Says rebuilt by Boeing 4/23/68.

Though the table moved smoothly, I can see the track surface and balls are slightly worn (no pitting). I suppose a set of slightly larger balls (these are .740") to run on an unused track surface and shims on the rack would be in order. I could afford class 25 balls.

Thanks.

It was born in 1952 ( 1Z ) and its a No. 2 PL. cutter and tool grinder Model em, 0m, LL, do. Does that model have the plastic piece for the balls, ( 4 ball per plastic ) ?

0ne year older than me.

It has 29 balls in one bronze ball cage on each track.

The balls roll smoothly over these darkened track spots. Though the owner didn't understand why I insisted on removing the table for transport, the machine had also set for the last 10 years, unused. Ball # 15 from Left/front measured .7495" 3x on my mic.

...more on this picture. They put this surface "flaking" on with a hand grinder. I ordered my 5-20-C Tubular Scraper today.

It's a good 8 degree grade up to the landing at the back of the house. Gotta have a guide line/brake on the back and pull it across, inch-by-inch. 1-1/2 inch to spare on either side of the ramp. It will just fit through the back door if I put the back end through first and twist just right as the front end passes.

Cinci #2

Most/much end sharpening is a grind slash only a short distance long..perhaps 1/8 to 1 inch..OD work is much/much less than 6" long. Check the error at mid table to see how straight that might be for"..Back taper on many cutters reduces the need for .0002 and .001/.002 needs in many cases.

Often even a .0001 reamed can be made with a less than perfect machine with being size at needed place and just adding a little more back taper.
Getting used to watching the grind or grinding one direction can affect the straightness of a long grind...

Agree doing new work to spec will need size and back taper to specs...
I like to run a strip of masking tape to cover the table to base opening on the wheel side.. then paint the tape so that seals from dust going in..
Check your speed pulley to be sure you are on the high or low speed. High speed will blow an AO wheel. If a oil spindle be sure both sides have oil.
Be sure wheel mounts are on the side that goes tight with starting/running wheel.
