Vintage Cincinnati No. 2 Horizontal Milling Machine (circa 1900)

Just picked up a nice Vintage (Circa 1900 - or so) Cincinnati No. 2 Horizontal Milling Machine - I will adding to the ever increasing restoration queue!

Thought I would share, see if anyone had some good info on these old beauties :D

Picked this machine up from a local fab shop, who had it for 50 years or so - where is mostly sat in a corner acting as a shelf :D. All-in-all the mill is in excellent shape for its age - the table is covered in a layer of gunk, but under that layer, the table is in pretty great shape - cannot find one ding in the table. Along with this, all of the drive train gears are in great shape too (no chipped teeth or anything (it looks like they never once used the drive train)!

You can just picture this running in a steam powered machine shop!

On the hunt for a good manual for this vintage of a mill - although the "A treatise on milling and milling machines" seems to cover a good swath of the information though.

The last patent date on the side door reads Oct. 2nd 1900 !

It has a face plate with a number of "208" - not sure of that is the serial number of it or not?
*Cannot find a serial number registry for a Cincinnati of that vintage.

Clean off the spot under the dove tail, see if its there. The 208 may be how many they made in that year.

I named these "ball joint" for the cool miter gear covers heading down to feed gear box

My 1 1/2 had been thru a fire and was about 1903

Thumbnail from that time

Forget "manual" - not something they did then

The screw applied tag is someone's asset number
