Hi Guys,

I often machine parts 4-8'' in length on my Swiss machines made from 17-4 SST. I will usually turn .312 OD stock down to something around .250 The issue i have is the parts will tend to bend up to .010'' I have to spend a lot of time manually straightening the parts to get them straight again. Does anyone have any tricks that they can recommend?

Is this annealed or in the hard? My best guess is that it's stress in the material from non-uniform cooling after it's last heat treat. Only way to avoid would be to slow the cooling process.

I agree with the previous posters... but just in case it's not the material, I would check the following things.

Is the bar bent?

Is the GB in alignment with the collet?

Is the collet set to machine as close to the GB as possible?

Is the tool creating too much pressure on the material during the cut?

Is the GB in good condition and set correctly? Not too tight?
