I've been steady at 2.30/lb on small orders of 6061 and 303. Hasn't changed for quite a while.

I have a friend that buys mill overrun, especially when prices are down. I would likely do the same game if I had 10-20 million to float around
Historically prices from suppliers around here for 6061 are $1.50-$2.10 a pound. Then again I have no problem shopping around and beating them up with others quotes several times back and forth. At the end of the day they are a middle man making money through markup. While they may be necessary I don't feel what they bring to the table commands a premium and I'm not afraid to tell them that.
You might be surprised how much wiggle room they have to discount materials.
It's always a option to join forces with a few buddies and go in together on a 40,000 pound plus order so you can buy direct from a broker.
