Hi all,

I have a broaching tool for cutting simple keyways on a mill.
The tool has a single flat cutting edge. What are the best methods for aligning the flat of the tool with X axis?

Thanks

You can use spindle orientation M19 to hold ur spindle in line with your X axis. If it were me I would increment your cuts to no more than .0015 to keep from damaging your spindle bearings.

Ok that helps. But then i still need to bring the cutting flat side by some angle.
Im very unexperienced so maybe its something obvious for you. I thought to simply run an indicator somehow over the cutting edge and then adjust the tools orientation by M19.
I also know that the holder is pulled by the stud but whar locks its rotation with respect to the spindle? Is it a zero backlash match?

Cut the angle you want on a scrap, m19, then move the broaching tool over to the angle you cut, tighten it in the holder. As you make the light cuts suggested earlier move away from the cut then raise up and take another cut untill you get the depth you want.
