Hello,

I am wondering if any of you can give me some information regarding carbide reamers?

I'm looking to make a few carbide reamer prototypes in the 5-axis grinders and am curious as to whether or not the clearance angles, flute geometry, etc. are the same as they would be for a HSS reamer?

If not, what makes them different?

Looking to make a 3/8" carbide reamer.

Any and all information you might think would be useful would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Dalton

I seem to recall the handbook mentioning they even make variable index reamers, or was it variable pitch spiral flutes? No I believe it was variable index, and it listed the offsets per flute for grinding a reamer with the fancy (new at the time I'd bet) geometry.

I have no idea how well it works, but the author of that section clearly liked them.

Attaching some info from the "wayback in that day" shelf.

Good luck,
Matt
