I am looking at a Chevalier cnc machine for sale and know nothing about them.

Can anyone recognize this and help with a model number?
Does this simply accept g-code from any modern software, such as mach3 or mach4?
Most likely to connect with 25 pin serial?
Am assuming Threaded lead screws and not ball screws....Any help there?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, Chavalier doesn't make CNC systems, they just make the knee mill the control is attached to.

I'm not super familiar with old CNC retrofits for knee mills, but maybe someone here will recognize the brand and be able to provide some info.

I can tell you that for being a knockoff bridgeport, there's nothing inherently wrong with Chevalier as long as you accept them for what they are (noodly knee mills).

That's an old Fanuc 6M? I don't know what the other monitor is for.

Assuming the control works, normal G code programming...

edit: closer look, appears to have softkeys, so may be 10 or 11M.

But definitely a G code machine.

edit again: correction- that's not a Fanuc. The keypad is wrong. Had to DL the image and blow it up...

It'll be a crapshoot. Would need to verify everything works, has documentation, etc.

That actually could have a proprietary control made by or for Chevalier and not your typical aftermarket PC based control you could slap on any manual mill. Some Goggling says the company has been around since 1978 and started out making surface grinders. Your best bet would be to get close up pics of the control to get any usable responses. Definitely get clear pics of all nameplates. Good luck, that thing could be pretty rare.

How can you tell that from that picture?

It's actually an Autocon which has some relationship to Dynapath but I don't know the details.

If they ever have a CNC Tech version of Jeopardy you will dominate it. You seem to have been exposed to every CNC controller made. Seriously how many shops have you been in, a couple 1,000?

Just call me the "Ken Jennings" of CNC then? :)

I spent about 10 years doing CNC field service and applications engineering in the NorthWest with some TDY for Makino in SoCal. Worked with one man operations to really big places and everything in between. Never counted them, but hundreds of different shops.

What he said..

Had to blow up the pictures. Here are some details. Cannot read what it says after Dynapath as far as a specific model.

The reason for the second monitor is apparently the original went bad.

So what's the consensus, do I need some specific software? Or will this accept any old software in g-code?

EDIT: added info...
I have little experience in the cnc aspect and this machine is a 350 mile drive away. The current owner has little to say about it.

Sales ad ---- CHEVALIER CNC VERTICAL MILL

WORKING CONDITION NEEDS NEW MONITOR

Email ---- ME - The condition is working I do hope, says working on the bottom of the ad, but for parts at the top.
Is this a falcon model? or a different model? The specific model number would be appreciated.
Is this a 2 axis or 3 axis machine? The 3rd axis was optional on some.
HIM - Yes it’s working Just needs a monitor, original one dead and it is a three axis

After a bunch of looking around, I think this is a falcon series, as to specific model unknown.

There are some good pictures there.

Even more info.

I thought it might have been a Delta 30 system. According to this DynaPath and looking at the pictures closely.

I was wrong however, according to this, DynaPath "There are no known Delta 30 packages." So It looks like it's a Delta 40/50/60.

found it in a brochure. looks like a +/-1995 falcon chevalier 643r. its a beast of a machine, 11x52 table, 5hp motor, 900lb work piece capacity, rigid ram, nst40 taper, dynapath 40mu cotroller(optional dynapath 50mu) even has extra options attached special order, including an oversized chip tray around base.
