My job requires a lot of boring of various hole sizes and profiles on the same part. This requires multiple boring heads and sometimes formed cutting tools to achieve the special profiles. I am looking into u axis bore heads but life would be good if they made my dream machine as explained further. Imagine the x and y movement on top of a turret. The cutting tool could also move in the x and z relative to the turret. I could then probe the proper datums and automatically center the hole to be bored over the turret axis. I would then single point each bore to various diameters or profiles. Hope this isn’t too confusing.
