Drill on OD using live tooling

Hello,

I plan to drill Thru. hole on OD 6" material 4140

However, in the radial tool holder 6" drill can not be mounted due to length

what if us 3" drill and using C axis 0deg to 3" depth then run C180 to drill 3"

is there any problem? will drill miss alignment?

If your machine is aligned and in good shape it could do it. Make sure the drill is centered properly and start with a spot drill.

Drill will likely be slightly misaligned whether it is from error in the setup or the drill walking, it will not be perfect. You could drill half and half then ream thru on another machine if alignment is critical.
