We have had many electrical storms role through over the weekend, but the machine was mostly powered off.
The main switch was still on - which feeds power to the spindle drives only.

This morning I fired it up, and all seemed fine.
I was staging the axi's to be able to HOME the slides, and it went dark.
The slides had each moved a few inches I think.

The CRT was scrolling "Check PC Cable" until it went dark.

I have tried rebooting to the main switch level several times, and all I get is:

CRT tries to scroll the "Check PC Cable" message, but you can only tell that there is faint light bars scrolling.
I only know what it says b/c that what was scrolling when it died. I cannot read it - and the CRT is in great condition.
It only tries to scroll that message for 3-5 seconds, and then the CRT drops out again.

Also - the main spindle drive (old skewl - pre Alpha) reads SU-01.
I'm not sure what it should read at this point tho?

Any ideas?

I don't think that has a "main power supply" like the Alpha series has?

I checked the 24V supply and that is spot on.

The incoming fuses on the ULH corner of the spindle drive read between 220-240V.

Fanuc thinks that it sounds like the power supply on the control.
They are shipping out a reman'd unit.

I guess that we are ass_u_ming that it was damaged via lightening overnight, but didn't die until a minute or two after being powered up.

???

Now - hopefully I don't lose all my brains in the process.

Is it a replacement/aftermarket display? Sounds like there is no video signal from the control.

Does your 18 control have a slot for PSU? Is it getting 200~240vac ?

Up and running!

It was the power supply ON THE CONTROL unit.
Which is the right hand side of the case.

Must have just taken a lighting bolt to heart, but didn't actually die until about 1 minute after powering up for the new day.
Kind'a weird, but you doo hear of that happening sometimes.

So now, riddle me this Riddler.

Why do you have two different axis drive series in your machine? what looks like a single 6057 and twin 6066. Is the 6057 for the turret?

I think that you are looking at the main spindle and the live tooling "spindle" drives? (open architecture)
Those would be different simply doo to hp size.

The axis drives are the C series yeller things in the middle, and yes, one of them is a 2x drive, and yes - it is for the turret, but I don't think that you can tell that from here?

I thought your live tool drive was an axis drive.

I really wondered if this was the lathe you did the big turret re-engineer on.

No, this is one that we just got in last year.
It's all stock, except for some add-on PLC that they have added pertaining to the bar feeder somehow.

I will have to dink with that mess another day. :willy_nilly:

This is the same model tho.
