    Default Groove Turning 1 1/4" 4340 w/ GT3

    Hello,

I came across a project where I need to groove turn 4340. Right now I am using a GT3 insert on a parting tool, which seems to be working but also seems pretty sketchy by the way things sound.

Machine is a Hurco TM6, 4340 @ 30 HRc. Groove is straight and mearsure 4" in length and 3/4" total depth.

Can someone recommend a tool? My machine takes 3/4" tool holders.

    Thank you!

I would rather use a Bandsaw to do what you are talking about than use a part-off blade thing, I don;t even use them for parting off anymore. What you want is something like any of these listed, I like the Pentacut for production, and the Heligrip for pretty much everything else.
