hardinge has not been much help. Everyone that has looked at it says a Hardinge setting or another switch problem.
anyone please HELP!!
This is the only machine I have and it isn't working.

HELP HELP HELP

Sub-spindle pressure switch?

I don't even know what that is.

???

Did you just git this machine?
How familiar with it are you?

Is the chuck "closed" ???

Machine will not execute code if it thinks that the chuck is open.

Is this an 18T?

Had machine from when it was new.
had power supply go bad. Had it repaired and loaded all parameters.
It ran for about two hours and came up with hydralic swithc alarm.
in trying to chase that problem found neither spindle will turn.
Finally got switch replaced and now no spindle rotation.
Put MDI M03 S500 cycle start nothing.
Wen I start a program it does everything but turn spindle on (turret indexes coolant comes on live tools go on) every thing but spindle rotation.
Both Main and Sub.
cannot jog spindles or cannot use C positioning either
I cannot get any real help for Hardinge so I sure hope you guys can help me figure it out.
Machine is 1993 with Sub spindle live tools C index position only
Fanuc 18T I think A
Please Help I have been down for two months!!!!!!!!

No alarms on the amps?
.. OK, well, if there was- you wouldn't be able to get to the S line....

You need to give us more info on this spindle switch.
Can you take a pic of it?
What kind of alarms was you getting with this switch issue?
Is this maybe a lube pressure switch? (Bijur)

In MDI, can you make the sub spindle go?

But the program will execute untill it sees a spindle start command? (not door or sub-spindle plunger switch)

Is that the switch that you are talking about?
The little prox switch on the tiny pancake cyl on the sub?

Hi Ox:
Sub spindle pressure switch is the switch that tells the control the collet is closed.
it is located on the Hydraulic pump.
do you know the address for the sub spindle prox switch that is on the cylinder
No alarms anywhere!!! in MDI M3 S500 mother board in control box shows E01
This all started with a parity alarm that is why I sent control out to be fixed
They said it was a power supply problem and fixed it
came back and we loaded all parameters and everything else and it ran for about one hour.
Then switch alarm came on and in tracing it down both spindles are not operational.
any command to turn spindles is ignored.
You seem to know this machine very well so I hope you can suggest what to do.

I know the machine pretty well, but it can git over my head in tech quickly.

No - I don't recall the param for the prox, but if you can cycle the collet open/closed, then it is fine, and it should not start the program at all if it was the issue, so I think we can rule that out.

If the program will execute up to the point of an S command, and then hangs, I doubt that I am going to be able to help you.

Can you look through the ladder until you find the spindle section, and see if you can find something that is not satisfied?

I would think that Fanuc has a tech in Phoenix.
They would be at least as much help or more than a Hardinge tech in this case I think.

Thanks Ox:
Yes they do and he came out and said it was a Hardinge problem
Cost me $775.00 and still machine not running
I am open to any ideas.
At this point it seems like maybe a ROM board problem but I Don't have enough experience to know how to check.
would that kind of problem give me an alarm?
What kind of cable do I need to communicate with this machine and what software should I use
what I have been using is very very old Mac computer not too suitable and I am afraid it might die and then I wont have any back up
This situation is driving me crazy!!!!

I have a CalMotion USB drive interface that I hook up to the 232 occassionally, but I never had good luck with the PC.

Well, anyone else that can help - chime in...

This may have been covered already, but there is an M code the switch from internal to external chucking mode on the main spindles. M28 and M29 I believe. I’m guessing the sub spindle has a different set of codes.

This pic is of a T51 without a sub, but are both close led lights lit when commanding a spindle rpm in MDI ?

You might try calling these guys. The story I was told was that, up until about 10 years ago, they were the exclusive distributor of Hardinge machine tools. They are nearby for us (Chicago) and they still service our 90’s T42’s. Maybe they’ll help you over the phone.

Iverson & Company | Machine Sales & Service Since 1931 | Desplaines, IL

Yep, a guy named Dale Mular from Iverson repaired a problem with the lube system on one of our Conquest T51’s. I can PM the OP his cell number if he needs

Is the hydraulic pressure for the sub actually rising when you look at the gage? Is the sub pressure set high enough? If it is too low it will think it isn't closed. If the gage is showing it is up to pressure but the light on the control is not lit, maybe you could take the connector hat thing off the sensor and jump it closed with a paperclip to see if the "collet closed" light lights up.

You're talking about the sensor on the back of the machine like this, right: (sideways pic I know :wall:)
