HELP Hardinge Conquest 42 Fanuc OT-C feedrate/spindle parameter issues

Howdy all,

I have a feed rate problem that is driving me bonkers. I just powered up and new to me an early 90's model conquest 42 with an OTC control ten station turret with live tooling and subspindle. the machine runs fine except for running the correct feed rate. With the following prep codes G20 G99 G01 mode at 1500rpm with a programed feed rate of 0.004" it moves like I'm feeding 4 microns/rev verses 0.004"/rev. Is there a scaling factor or a Hardinge logic safety that could be causing my problem? When I get to a threading cycle she just stops all together but doesn't alarm out.

I noticed that the actual spindle speed is not displaying correctly. when I program 1500rpm the spindle spins up to what appears to be 1500 but the actual spindle speed fluctuates between 1-3rpm. maybe I have a spindle parameter issue instead?

I don't know if its a parameter issue or a safety interlock or just a gremlin...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

kind of sounds like spindle encoder problem. Bad encoder, Broken belt, bad cable or connection, are possibilities.

M3S1500 only spins the main at 1-3 RPM’s? In MDI?

I think your correct. I spoke with both Hardinge and Fanuc and they both pointed me in this direction. I have another encoder already headed my way.

In MDI M3S1500 it appears to spin the correct rpm however the shown spindle speed in the lower right hand corner fluctuates between 1-3 rpm. If i program other speeds the spindle seems to spin correctly. Both Fanuc and Hardinge said that its an encoder issue.
