Has anyone had any luck with Y-axis parting on a Doosan lathe? Looking at what Iscar has for inserts makes me curious how well it works with these and just in general.

Hi!

I used to be Training/Applications for Doosan. I ran a few demos with Y axis parting as part of the demonstration. It worked REALLY well. It looked awkward, but the performance was terrific. Anything I can help you with, let me know.

So what's the advantage to doing this anyway?

Spiel claims increased stiffness relative to the width of the cut, deeper parting than conventional per given width of blade.

I have used the Sandvik system and it works as expected, but I haven't really pushed the envelope, so I can't say in absolute terms if it's significantly better than conventional.

Apparently you should be able to push your tool harder and get better tool life from what I have read.
