I need a good porous media to replace LDF board for holding down work.
Specifically something that creates lest dust (chips are fine, but air born dust is what I want to avoid)
Something just as soft, no hard metals that can scratch a sensitive surface.
Ridged and machinable if possible.

Any help would be appreciated!

Two thoughts, expanded pvc board and porous aluminum plate. The pvc board is readily available in colors and thicknesses. I cut a lot of it but never tried using it as a spoilboard. I use mdf as spoilboard. Vac pulls just fine through even 1/2" board for me. The pvc board comes with sold skin but you could probably face it off and on the top it might even work to your advantage. You could cut through the skin just where you need it. I think ldf/mdf is your best cheap option.
