Why is it so difficult to find a 3/8" diameter ball screw with a 0.050" lead? I can find acme screws all day long in this configuration.

Because it would only have circa 30 thou balls hence be a real pig to make work. Equally most people use ball screws to get coarser not finer pitches.

I bought three 8mm diameter ground ball screws with 3 mm lead used on ebay for $50. from what i can tell you can get 6mm diameter and 2mm lead but that's as small as they get. i have never seen 6mm diameter 2mm lead screws on ebay so you would have to buy them new from the manufacturer.. not going to be cheap.

Yeah theres also the whole imperial metric thing, these days imperial ball-screws are rare, certainly not std at all and probably account for single digit percentages of global ball-screw production. So you also have that against you.
