Metrol Tool Setter Disassembly

Anyone taken apart a Metrol tool setter before? I have a TM26D on my Brother and it has quit working.

When I would touch off a tool I would get an error that the probe was on. After the tool touched, the touch pad very slowly raised up. This started happening at the beginning of June and was intermittent through June. I didn't run the Brother in July as I getting ready to get rid of the Blaser coolant and replace it with oil.

While cleaning I thought I should address the issue. Metrol is no help, they have a "replacement" program. I cannot find anything online as to disassembly or anything. Talking to Brother, they said when they quit working, they replace them.

Today I took it apart as far as I was able to figure it out. I got to the stem and the return spring, which are dry, no signs of chips or oil. Yet this touch probe is nearly immovable either way.

I have less than 500 spindle hrs on the Brother, I KNOW I haven't reached the "rated" 3 million touches.

Any thoughts? Should I leave it alone and send it in for replacement?
