I think it's an option from the 10MA-D version and later. I had a 1989 Mori that had the 10MD and it had absolute encoders with their own battery backup separate from the control. Whenever I'd change the encoder batteries, powered up, the encoders would get pissy and I'd have to got through the axis homing procedure to zero them out. There's a procedure using parameter 1815 for the machine to re-learn it's zero position.
