After getting new machine going, turn on spindle..... WOW much quiet compare to my 05 model.
I am debating should I have it rebuild or replace with new spindle
what is your opinion?

I think that the new machine uses a different style drive belt that does not whine like the old timing belts did on your 05' model (both of mine whine like crazy at high speed. What does your parts diagram show?

Mickey makes a good point . Myself, I do not know the Sharp that well, but I have to ask myself "Are you fixing it because it is actually broke? Or, are you fixing it because it's noisy??" If it isn't broke, I'd live with the noise. I could think of a lot of other things to spend that kind of money on.

because new one much quite so I thought my spindle bearing wore out.... I guess I have to deal with the noise when i goes up to 5K
Thanks for all your input

I have a 2412 ,05 model my spindle was loud I bought a sound meter from radio shack and at 8000 rpm
it was 92db the manual said it should be no more than 73db I didn't want to use the machine because it was so loud.

Someone sugested to change the belts first before repacing the spindle bearings .
So I took the old belts off and noticed the rubber was breaking down from oil geting on them
they were sticky and goooey.

Any way I replaced them with these Spd belts that are oil restant .Its a white material not sure what.
(This is the belt for the 2412)

After changing the belte It sounded like a new machine again .
At 8000 rpm the noise coming frome the machine 3 feet away was only 70 db.

It showed
50R-H021 timing belt set of 2

Thanks...
My new machine comes with 2 extra belt
I should of try them out, after my drawbar is fixed... I think my drawbar got broken spring load washer, my holder won't stay tight when spindle is in closed position.
After looking part diagram.. my old and new machine has same part # of timing belt....
Lucky me.....

Don't use the neoprene belts that come withe the machine .
Neoprene breaks down when oil gets on them they will sound fine for a while .
but then they start to stick to the pulleys and you get that loud whine.
Buy the belts that are made from the Polymer Compound.

This is the belt that fits your machine its made from Polymer Compound

When I was at IMTS I talked to one of the spindle rebuilders there and they were using a V pattern drive belt on some of their rebuilds and were claiming a 20% noise reduction, especially in the high range. Anyone know anything about that style?

I am goint to use extra belt on my old machine and order the ones you suggested, just so I have them on the shelf, wainting the extra ones go bad then replace them.

Thanks for your recommendation

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone here........

I realize this is a very old thread, but does anyone happen to know the timing belt's specs for the SV-2412 as the link for SDP doesn't work anymore since they have changed their website.

Cheers,
Omid
