Just out of curiosity why Mazak? Familiar with control already, name brand, good deal, Good salesman?
There are endless brands out their and I'm always interested why people chose what they do.

Having been a Haas guy forever, our work has changed to more difficult, tighter tolerance parts, with harder materials. Over the last couple of years, we keep finding short comings in both turning and milling, that just keeps driving me nuts. That coupled with the most awful HFO for service I have ever seen, we decided to make a change. Its not easy to bring another control in. We needed our first live tooled lathe, and I liked what the Mazak control had to offer for basic milling and turning, right at the machine. My guys should be able to do basic stuff without a Mastercam program, quickly. I really like the turret with the vdi holders, and the clearance between tools is much greater than we are used to. ( big plus) . The price was a bit more than Mori, but this is where the salesman came in. Great guy, and I "FEEL" confident in getting great service. We shall see. The Mori salesman seemed to be doing me a favor to talk with me. Oh, and 6 free hats, yep that did it!!!!
We are excited about the change, and Im sure we will have a couple of months learning curve,, but it will be for the better.
On a side note, I normally do not bash Haas since Ive purchased so many of them, but since I have bought so many, I have the right to piss and moan!!

You will love the mazak.

On this forum you can find alot of help with programming also. It will be frustrating at first but work through it and Mazatrol will shine.

Also, get a working post for the machine that way when you do need it. Its working and you don't have to mess with post.

I had to upgrade my Mastercam lathe software, and they included, what they said, is an excellent custom post for this machine. Spent a few days at Mazatrol school to get some basics. The school fell very short of what I was expecting, but should be sufficient to get rolling.

Post? Why would you need a post if you are programming Mazatrol?

Mazatrol will only go so far. We need this machine to do dynamic core milling on some fairly detailed parts with 3d machined surfaces.

Understood. Mazatrol is not very good for organic shapes. Did you get high pressure coolant? I don't think I could ever live again without it.

Yes, but I think its only rated at 230 psi. Im anxious to see how its 230 is compared to the Haas 300. The 300 seems barely adequate for the cost, so my expectations are low. Was just looking at the tool holders in the Mazak, and noticed that they all have thru holder coolant!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure will beat running copper lolly pops and fittings all over the place. Liking it so far!!! The other option I ordered was the peck tapping cycle. This should come in handy with the little tapped holes we get in stainless and m2 tool steel.

Sweeeeet machine!:drool5:

It's surprising to hear that the Mazak was higher than an equivalent Mori Seiki. In the past Mori was always priced at a premium to Mazak, and Mori's attitude was take-it-or-leave-it.

Worldwide, Mazak is the largest metalcutting machine tool builder dollar-wise, and that has always been a thorn for Mori. I believe it's one of the reasons they merged with DMG...which just doesn't make any sense to me anyway.:nutter:

Like said, you will grow to love the Mazatrol control. Just try not to get the keys too sticky with your man love...:D

And be sure to post more pics up close, in action. WE WANT PORN!

Very nice, congrats. I sure would love to have something like that.

As to organic shapes, the goal is to not make any while running machines...

As soon as i conquer our 5500 a month machine payments that is the next machine we are buying. Superb machine..was it 230k?

Im curious now, are you guys sure your talking about the Nexus Matrix 250MY?? No sub spindle, just a tail stock. 10" chuck, 3" bar cap, 20" Z, high pressure coolant, peck tapping, EIA gcode option, chip conveyor, two axial and one radial live tools. The 350my was list around 270 grand.
