I have been running a DMG with a linear X axis for, uhhh, 17 years........so yes then make them with one axis linear, yes the pull a ton of current[90 amps 208 3 phase] and yes they are fast. Brother ish but you can machine engine blocks

I think it is probably the current draw rather than cost that holds them back. 3 axis I think you would have to run 480 volts and a room full of them would need a pretty hefty service, but they make some that run like 4000 ipm so that would be fun

I replaced the absolute encoder last year, that hurt, otherwise rock solid

I don't have the numbers but I don't think it was that much more. These particular molds were made in Phoenix in the past. It was mostly a case of John Anderson and Mike Evans at Anderson "Global" in Michigan wanting to pocket more of the money for themselves, so they fucked over all the people working at Production Mold in Phoenix. The one guy in Phoenix who was someone's son kept his job, the rest went out the door.

The actual cost of manufacture is probably about the same. But China doesn't bleed every small business in town to make up for the fact that 1% of the people have all the money. For example there was no $650,000 in fees and studies and engineering reports to set up this building. They just put it up. Maybe six months ? And the rent was cheap, I think three grand for 5,000 sq ft ?

You guys like capitalism, so you get to live with the results. Personally, I think you're fucking yourselves.

p.s. the Doosan mold photos look nice. But I think we got the same finish and accuracy with some twenty year old OKK's. Nice to buy new, if you can afford it. But can still do good work with 'old junk'

And I also think vmc's have become something of a commodity. I see pretty nice machines now made by no-name companies. It's not that big a deal anymore. I bet most of the world's injection molds are now made in south China, and they don't go gaga over high-dollar machines. They mostly buy domestic 'chinesium'. Fisher-Price is no worse than it was thirty years ago, when they were made domestically.

    Times change.

Face facts, dear. it's kicking your butt RIGHT NOW, as we speak. For FIVE TIMES as many people as the US has.

    You're toast

(btw, if you want to go back in history ? It was ALL socialism in the beginning. Without socialism you wouldn't have the luxury of playing robber baron asshole capitalist because humans would not have survived. Without socialism, you and I wouldn't exist.)

Meanwhile, the US is eating itself alive, from the inside out. Mmmm, nice.

i'm doing VERY well in capitalism, thank you.
unlike you, i have first hand experience with socialism/communism. and i can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, that i'm infinitely times better off under capitalism than socialism.
