Looking at purchasing an older 1998 Okuma Cadet mate 4020 and running some test on it showed a 0.0004" backlash in the Z axis. As soon as we get to the 0.0004" (moving in 0.0001" steps)on the control the indicator takes up the difference and they equal. The X and Y were less than 0.0001". We do mostly automotive parts and items with +/- 0.001" or more.

Also a draw bar test showed 1900# of pull force

Does anyone know what the tolerances are for this machine.

What level of concern would this be?

Would likely indicate that is an after comp measure. As mentioned that is good for an older machine, but if the comp value is large the tool will move based on the amount of cutting force. That is why you want to measure with the comp off (0).

This machine was manufactured by ZPS, Czech Republic and Okuma added their control. Using the pulse handle to check and set backlash isn't accurate, you need to write a program to move in one direction, then set an indicator to zero, move in the same direction a small amount, then back the other direction the same amount. The difference on the indicator is the backlash amount. As stated above, set backlash comp to zero to see backlash.

The pull force is listed at 2204 pounds +/- 10%, but I think you are borderline good at 1900.
