So - you think the spindle was under water?

That's some deep water if a machine of that value found it's way THAT far under water!

That machine sure doesn’t look like it’s been in deep water.

Really clean looking around and below the spindle, and on the inside of the machine.

Keep the pics coming. I love the plastic tubing harness. Do what you can with what ya got. Guess you are looking for the high water mark?

I like your haircut. SO much better than these mohawks......;)

Nice machine, too. :D

What's the worse thing that happens if you just run it?

New pics make it look real bad. The solid ways will probably be fine, but ballscrews and any linear guides are probably trash.

Looks worse than I'd expect for flooding. It takes a lot of moisture and time to wash the lube off ways and screws.

And you added yet another! :willy_nilly:

I wouldn't want an integral motor in a lathe to begin with anyhow.
Now look what you got.

:ack2:

This looks like salt water type corrosion , not fresh water. (or at least brackish water.).

Are you able to determine what type of flooding occurred ? Local history ?

You might want to test for chlorides / further on down the road and figure out how to desalinate your machine. Chlorides (from "Salt water" ) are very difficult to get rid of and cause further rapid and difficult to control corrosion.

Like what Ox said , that linear motor on the inside gives me the heebeegeebees too, those windings and adhesive all over the place.

I will be following this one. Great project! Good luck! I can't wait to see you making good parts with this machine.

I wonder if this got caught up in that tsunami a few years back?
Maybe down in the basement at Fukashima too?

OP might need a Giger counter …

Does the machine give off a faint glow at night when the lights are switched off...

A lot of Vietnamese resettled here in Louisiana after the fall of Saigon in 75 and all the Vietnamese I've met say the weather is the same. If that's the case I can see this being from flooding from heavy rain. The rain from hurricane Rita a few years back flooded half of my town, I'm in Houma (SOUTH) of New Orleans, and several well tooled machine shops. I got to take a look at a 10" hollow spindle Mazak Power Master and a VTC 250 that got 3 feet of water. Those machines were less than 3 years old.

So with Vietnam's hills and similar weather, yeah, a failed levee or stalled pump station, flooded Integrex.
