Rigid tap on hardinge cobra 42

Can I rigid tap tap on my hardinge cobra 42(new to me). It has a encoded spindle for single print threading so why wouldn't it be able to rigid tap? The book says I need a floating tap holder.

Rigid tapping is an option; may or may not be activated on a particular machine.
If the book advises to use a floating tap holder, it may mean that it is not possible to enable rigid tapping on this machine. Ask MTB to confirm.

The Cobra series did not support rigid tapping you must use a floating tap holder

I have a Cobra 42 and it does have rigid tapping. It's an option you have to purchase. You should be able to purchase it from Hardinge and they will send in a person who will flip a few bits to turn it on.

Do you use a canned cycle? g84?

Im new to fanuc and some of my cam, canned cycles dont work with it. the book does not list a tapping canned cycle.
The only drilling cycle is a g74...
I have just been hand coding my own pecking cycles
