Battery backup for prototrak knee mill

That's what I did, just to keep the cpu alive. You will need to separate the computer power cord from the servos.

The key to selecting a UPS is to get a unit with enough VA capacity for the cpu. My Prototrak uses a custom version of a Windows 95 computer and software. There is no hard drive. However it does have a cpu fan. Look on the nameplate of your computer for the current draw of the computer, that times 120 will yield the volt-amperes. Then determine how much time the ups must supply power. Select a ups with the number of va-minutes for sizing the battery. These ups's are designed as a carry-through backup. They are not intended for hours of operation. Also they are not intended to supply power to the mill main motor or the servos.

You should always keep a copy of the program on disk. If the outage is more than just a few minutes, that will allow you to reload the program.

Tom,

Does this UPS go inline with the cnc computer only? I assume it would have to...
