Are the bearings in a Shizouka ANS sealed or do they need oil?

They are greased, not oiled. I replaced the bearings in mine back when I had it. Was about $500 in bearings and very straightforward to replace. I think it was the Kluber Isoflex NBU-15 I used.
I don't recall a lot about that at the moment. I seem to recall that the drive is not reliant on the spindle for anything, you just drop the spindle out and the splines slide out.
I think there was a top bearing (which I replaced) and maybe a snap ring. I got a PDF of the stackup from Shizuoka years ago, I'll see if I can find the diagram.

It's a little challenging to follow visually, but like I said, you just need to pull the Z axis drive yoke off the spindle and quill will drop right out.
