Siemens - "Didn't Post "Dino" Complete"

810D Mill control
2002 vintage

Had CCU issues and tried to swap with sister machine, but the CCU's were slightly different. When I threw the juice to the machine - I think that I may have heard something pop?

Swapped CCU's back and the sister machine is fine, and with phone/e-mail support from a technician, we were able to get our CCU back to what appears to be fine, however - our PCU50 is not loading completely.

The tech thinks corrupt file maybe - but that is just outside of his wheelhouse apparently.
He has a used unit to sell me tho.

However - my boy - being a 'putor programmer by trade was able to pull the hard drive off and download it - hoping to find corruption in the DINO file, but he said that it appears fine from what he can see.

I hadn't thought until posting this about the possible "pop" issue.* Have not ran that past the tech yet. But we are under the assumption that this file should be loading just to the HMI or whatnot - and not down to the CCU?

Maybe the issue is on the board of the HMI unit?

We get quite a ways into the boot process, just not finishing.

Any experience?


edit:

IF this 'pop" actually did exist, I think that it came from inside the cabinet. It did not sound like it was coming from inside the pendant. (if it ever actually existed)

not sure if the 810d would be different but have you cleared the nc/plc and reloaded it?

I think that is what the phone tech had me doo, and yes - that part appears to be ready to rock and roll now.

was it the 2-3-2 dial in the back, then services reload .plc and .nck file?

and don't know if you've done it yet but have your kid pull the drive and mirror it to a new ssd
for both machines. and for the $75 or so for a ssd it may save a lot of heartache down the road.

It involved turning the two dials - yes.
Not 100% sure what the combination was anymore, but yours sounds right.

Not sure what SSD is, but he has a copy of the drive and we will be keeping a spare copy or 2 around, but prolly on just a thumb drive for now.
Maybe a copy on his home putor? He may have mentioned cloud as well.

The sister machine has a PCU-20, and does not have a hard drive.
Near as we can tell - it must be EPROM?

pc50 had the hdd and the pc20 has a pc card. ssd solid state drive. the plc nck files should be on that card on the pc20. use the serial cable to back them up.

There is no card in the unit.
There is a holder, but no card.

Had a similar problem with an 840D of mine. It was the mdbbe.ini that didnt load at "area load". I was able to copy over the mdbbe.ini from my factory floppies to the hard drive and that fixed the problem. To do this, I connected the siemens drive to a mac OSX machine with an IDE to USB adapter. (Ive heard you dont want to connect older Siemens drives to windows machines). Fixed the problem. If its the drive starting to fail, you can fix some bad sector problems with ddrescue a free linux program. That also worked for me and fixed some bad files on the original 840D drive.

I am pretty sure that he was using Linux as well.

I just shot a mail to Hardinge to see if they could scare up a copy of these files.
We'll see.
I bought these mills used, and I don't find any floppy's anywhere.

Would any of you possibly have these files on your storage?
These very well may be generic Siemens files and may not be special to Hardinge. (???)

A Hardinge rep got back to me very quickly, and will be sending me the PLC and whatnot files that were generated by Hardinge, but these files for the HMI are expected to be Siemens files and not machine specific. But likely specific to the PCU-50 control.

Anyone?

kinda thinking out loud but, I would wait for hardinge to get you the nck and plc file and reset with those, long shot but maybe there something wrong with the files that were on the hd already. them punch them through with the serial cable direct. and one thing the tech told me was to make sure the machine side and pc side were setup for pc (binary) and not the ascii mode.

I have the NC and PLC files already, but - those are for the card in the CCU - no?

I wouldn't have a clue how to "set up" the PC when it doesn't boot up fully?

I would think they would be the same files. maybe they have a newer version.

And when you say pc are you talking about the control hmi? or your laptop/pc?

ok same page now, nt on the machine isn't booting. does it come up with any of the siemens screen?

Actually - yes.
It seems to be mostly booted by the time it faults out.

My Siemens phone tech guy was pretty sure that the trouble was in the HMI.
He watched it boot via What's App (facetime type thing)
Kind'a revolutionizing tech support!

Here's what I found, It sounds like it's a Siemens program (don't know if Hardinge would have had a custom one or not) But I'm wondering if the plc isn't coming up in the time specified? and almost like it's still in a nck/plc reset upgrade mode.

got to love pre/win95 when all the programs config were in an .ini file and not buried in the registry never to be seen again

If the control would come up and get to the services I would try the nck/plc reset reload again
and if possible use an external pc to punch the files hardinge sent you.

I have a copy of siemens DINO.INI from my DMG factory floppy discs. Might work, Vintage is 1998. I can send the file PM me.
