Hi, is there function similar to G31 which stores the position variable without stopping the machine, after a skip signal has been issued?

A skip signal does not stop the machine. It moves to the next line of code regardless of whether that lines' position was reached or not.

Be aware that if G00 is modal when G31 is issued, it Will rapid during the move. G31 does not force G01 motion.

Actually, it is not like this on Fanuc. G31 will have its own feedrate, specified in its block.

More information needed:
1. Machine, control?
2. Does G31 and SKIP input exist ?
3. Is it the external signal which triggers the position pickup action, or is it time based or position based condition ?
4. What you mean "without stopping the machine" ? Taking the readings ON THE FLY ? What kind of accuracy do you expect ?

Advise.

On a Fanuc 31i if no feed rate is specified in the block, and G00 is modal.............. Yikes.
