Hello all,

We want to try broaching on one of our older Mazak horizontal machining centers. We are looking at getting ph Horn tooling but was wondering if there was a better way to lock down the spindle for the broaching operation rather than using M19? Any and all information is appreciated. Also, any advice or warnings about cnc broaching is also much appreciated!

Thank you

I've only used M19 to lock the spindle and never had any problems. I rough out whatever I can with endmills so the broach doesn't have to much work to do. Small stepovers, .002 or so, maybe a spring pass on the last pass.

I usually only do it on blind holes, not really that big of a deal.

Broaches only take small cuts, on the order of a couple of thou. The broach tool is symmetrical so there is not much to make the spindle rotate . . . I've never had a problem. Just use M19, or M18, or . . . whatever your machine supports.
