Is likely that a new Steinmeyer ballscrew that I installed in my Fadal has under a tenth backlash at the center and both ends? It’s 16” of travel.
I went to enter backlash values and measured almost nothing with a good Brown and Sharpe Best Test .0001 indicator.
I didn’t use jog, in manual mode I moved the axis -.1 then +.I”
Not complaining :), just wondering if I have an error in my process
I did zero the backlash values before I started

Thanks

Typically a new ballscrew with some amount of preload shouldn't have any measurable backlash, but it's generally a fight between how much preload vs. what the force is required to move the load (table and workpiece). In a previous company we designed and built some instrument staging for our optical profilers that employed Steinmeyer ballscrews, and never had any issues with their products. Your Fadal controller gets to relax a little...
